RIVER

Here is another tutorial on "how to make a river".

* Material used : 3 mm MDF 

* Length: 12 inches (30.5 cm)

* Width : 5 inches (12.5 cm)

MOAB 2017: Ceri's Germans advancing over the swallows of the river while his tank commander is on overwatch.

Measure and cut  enough MDF to cover the length of a 6 x 4 gaming table.

Use box cutters to chamfer the long edges of the MDF.

Apply a generous amount of PVA glue.

Space out  large stones of similar size on the glue.

Cover the remainder glue with smaller stones.

Allow to dry overnight.

Apply  2 x thin layers of PVA glue on the surface this helps to seal the surface and create a smooth surface needed to create the smooth water surface illusion .

Spray both sides of the river with Black Primer.

Dry brush or better if you can wet brush the stones with Vallejo Model colour Desert Yellow.

Highlight with Desert Yellow mixing in some Vallejo Model colour Iraqui Sand.

Note: I forgot to take a photo of the completed stones painted with the rest of the river still covered in Black Primer

Use Vallejo Model Color Black Green to blend in the paint to create a water feel to the river  allowing the black primer to come thru in areas.
Add a bit of Vallejo Model colour Iraqui Sand to the green and paint  near the shore and around the stones in the water to highlight those areas, try and do this while the green paint is still moist. 

Painting completed.

Now apply 2 coats of Tamiya X-22 Clear  with  a paint brush to obtain the gloss surface  and flock the edges with fine flock.
Utilizing  the large stones of similar dimension allows for easy stacking and storing.
